How it works

Who owns a keepsake

Every scan and every keepsake made from it has one owner and one creator, recorded the moment it is uploaded. They are often the same person. When they are not, this is what each can do.

The owner

Owned by the family or the studio

Whoever the scan was uploaded for. The owner is the only one who can change the shape itself: clean it up, reposition it, restyle it, or delete it. A studio that uploads for a client owns that piece; a family that uploads its own file owns theirs.

The creator

Owned by you · made by your studio

Whoever did the work. It never changes, and it is how a studio gets its credit on a family's page even after the family owns the piece.

Everyone else

Views only, and only if the owner lets them. A family can always see the keepsake its studio made for it, and may ask the studio for a change while the studio owns it. A studio can see its families' finished pieces, never their raw scans.

Handing it over

Owned by the studio · edits by the studio

A studio that made a piece for a family can hand it over. The family becomes the owner and works on it like one they uploaded themselves; the studio stops seeing it and keeps its credit as the creator.

A pro retouch

Owned by you · First Likeness may edit until delivered

Buying a retouch lends our artist edit access to that one piece until the retouched version is delivered. The chip on the piece says so the whole time, and the access ends by itself.

You will see one of these chips on every piece, so there is never a question of who can do what.
